FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Co. will hold a groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday, Aug. 30, at 10 a.m. at the future site of the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station Emergency Operations Facility at 2600 US Route 20, West, Lindsey, Ohio.
FENOC officials as well as representatives from Ottawa, Lucas and Sandusky County government agencies will be on hand for the groundbreaking. Davis-Besse Vice President Barry Allen and Ottawa County Commissioner President Jim Sass will address guests at the ceremony.
The new, state-of-the-art 12,000 square-foot facility will be used by Davis-Besse plant personnel to coordinate with state and local emergency management agencies during the unlikely event of an emergency at the plant.
The current Emergency Operations Facility is located at the Davis-Besse station, along with a small, back-up Emergency Operations Facility at FirstEnergy's Lindsey Service Center.
FirstEnergy is a diversified energy company headquartered in Akron, Ohio. Its FENOC subsidiary also operates the Beaver Valley Power Station in Shippingport, Pa., and the Perry Nuclear Power Plant in Perry, Ohio.
