SaskPower and Hitachi Ltd. are partnering to construct a $60 million carbon capture test facility (CCTF) at SaskPower's Shand Power Station in southeastern Saskatchewan.

American Electric Power is terminating its cooperative agreement with the U.S. Department of Energy and placing its plans to advance carbon dioxide capture and storage technology to commercial scale on hold, citing the current uncertain status of U.S. climate policy and the continued weak economy as contributors to the decision.

In support of the U.S. Department of Energy's FutureGen 2.0 program, the FutureGen Alliance released the site selection guidelines for communities that would like to be considered as the host for a carbon dioxide (CO2) storage site.

The government of Saskatchewan in Canada and Hitachi, Ltd. have signed a joint declaration to work together and share information for developing energy and environmental technologies, including carbon capture and storage for thermal power plants, renewable energy and smart grid technologies.
