The U.S. Department of Energy yesterday issued the following statement in support of the commissioning of the world’s first tri-generation fuel cell and hydrogen energy station to provide transportation fuel to the public and electric power to an industrial facility, located at the Orange County Sanitation District's wastewater treatment plant in Fountain Valley, California.

U.S. Energy Secretary Steven Chu has announced that $30 million in funding from the Recovery Act and FY 2010 budget appropriations will be made available to qualified small businesses to support the commercialization of promising new technologies.

 Lots of claims, lots of financial backing, lots of hype; but will the Bloom Energy Server fulfill its economic promises? I sure hope so, because even if the Bloom technology doesn’t go the mile, it’s another step toward using distributed fuel cell generation with cheap and relatively clean natural gas.
